Things to do in London: Historical lectures at Apsley House
Published: Thursday 10th of November 2011
Those looking for things to do in London can attend a series of informative lectures at Apsley House, the former home of the Duke of Wellington after he was victorious over Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo.
Home to one of the finest art collections in the capital, featuring paintings by Velazquez and Rubens, Apsley House is also a prime venue for educational events - such as the English Heritage lecture series taking place there this month.
On November 15th, visitors will get a rare chance to see an illustrated account of the Wellesley family, taking them on a journey through time from the first Duke of Wellington to his later descendants.
Then, on November 22nd, historical researcher Natalie will give visitors a fascinating insight into the fashion trends of the 18th and 19th centuries, using the portraits in Apsley House as a guide.
For a little Christmas cheer, why not visit Apsley House on December 7th, when members of Christ College Cambridge will be present to perform a selection of festive carols.
