Spanish songs showcased at Banqueting House

Published: Thursday 18th of December 2008

The traditions of Spanish music will be showcased at a forthcoming event at Banqueting House.

The historic London venue will play host to Spanish Songs on January 26th, with a light buffet supper to follow the entertainment.

Renowned tenor Jose Maria Guerrero will be performing, accompanied by John Knight on the guitar.

Among the highlights will be Javier Monreal's La Burjas de La Zarza, Garcia Lorca's El cafe de chintas and Juan Benitez's civil war song Recuerdos de un amigo.

Against the backdrop of such a stunning venue, there's no doubt that Banqueting House will do justice to these dramatic and powerful pieces of work.

Banqueting House was originally the property of the Archbishop of York and enjoyed a special relationship with King Charles I.

The monarch and his court used to enjoy their entertainment at the venue throughout his life, before a rather less enjoyable occasion at the very end of it: his execution.

LondonPass holders can gain free general admission to Banqueting House in London's Whitehall, saving £4.50 for adults and £2.25 for children.
