Shell-shocked student describes Eton experience

Published: Saturday 28th of February 2009

One writer has described her summer school experience at Eton College as a "shock to the system", saying it reached far and beyond what her usual school syllabus would expect.

After embarking on a course at the world-famous school, Katy Murr told the Independent how she learnt so much from her time at the establishment.

"Freed from the dreadful syllabuses, with like-minded pupils who contentedly love literature, I learnt more than in the last six years of secondary education," she revealed to the paper.

Learning everything from the works of T S Eliot to those of J M Coetzee, Murr said she covered a lot of material in her time at the college, including how to manage her time effectively and be self-disciplined.

Holders of the London Pass who want to see Eton College for themselves can save £5.50 on the price of an adult ticket and £4.50 on a child's by getting free entry to the attraction.
