Serving time at the Tower of London

Published: Wednesday 28th of May 2008

Throughout its history, the Tower of London has been home to many famous prisoners, from Guy Fawkes to Hitler's deputy Rudolph Hess.

From July, visitors to this top London attraction will be able to relive the experiences of past inmates, such as Bishop Flambard - the first person to be imprisoned in the castle.

Flambard began his career under the reign of William the Conqueror, but when King Henry I succeeded to the throne, he was imprisoned in the Tower of London on charges of embezzlement. He subsequently escaped from the prison and those dramatic events will be re-enacted during the exhibition.

There will also interactive exhibits and tales of treason and torture that reach far back into the history of England.

London Pass holders can receive free entry to the Tower of London and can now enjoy a 20 per cent discount on purchases made in the New Armouries Cafe.
