Save on London sightseeing: UK breaks 'not facing cutbacks'

Published: Sunday 16th of August 2009

People are not cutting back on breaks, which may include those in London, despite problems in the economy.

This is according to research from VisitBritain, which discovered that 20 per cent of people will be staying in the UK to holiday, possibly visiting London attractions as a result.

London is even involved in a £750,000 marketing campaign to show visitors what it has to offer, which will include its shopping opportunities and great value attractions.

"This is a time to hit the accelerator, not the brake," noted Visit London marketing director Martine Ainsworth-Wells, who said that the new campaign will be launched across the world.

Research carried out by Tesco recently suggested two-fifths of British families have not yet booked a summer holiday, despite it being the highlight of the year for 39 per cent of the country's parents.

However, last year, 57 per cent of people booked last minute and were happy in doing so, it discovered.
