Peace One Day at the Albert Hall

Published: Tuesday 5th of August 2008

The Royal Albert Hall in London will be the venue for this year's Peace One Day Celebration concert on September 21st.

Performers at the concert include Annie Lennox and Bryan Adams, while contributions will be made by special guests including Jude Law.

There will also be a screening of an acclaimed new documentary movie entitled The Day After Peace, which was rapturously received at the 61st Cannes Film Festival and features the likes of Kofi Annan, the Dalai Lama, Angelina Jolie and actor Jonny Lee Miller.

Peace One Day was started by British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley in 1999 with the aim of establishing the first annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence.

The day was unanimously adopted by the UN member states in 2001.

Last year, more than a million people were active on Peace Day in 192 different countries.

Life-saving initiatives were carried out in 14 countries and in Afghanistan alone 1.4 million children were vaccinated against polio.

London Pass holders can receive free entry to the Royal Albert Hall.
