Nurses get blast from the past

Published: Monday 18th of May 2009

Nurses in Aintree got a surprise visitor last week when Florence Nightingale dropped by.

The event was held to mark Nurses' Day on May 12th and saw the world-famous nurse dropping in to help her colleagues celebrate.

Playing the part for the day was Ruth Sturgeon, Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust volunteer, who paid a visit to the nursing staff to distribute greetings cards.

"Our volunteers were delighted to be taking part in this event to thank the nurses for all the hard work they put in on a daily basis," commented Terry Owen, the trust's volunteer placement manager.

A total of 1,690 staff received the cards from Florence, who travelled by horse and carriage to meet them.

With the London Pass, learning more about the world-famous nurse is easy as it gives free entry to the Florence Nightingale Museum.
