More Brits set to save on London Attractions this year

Published: Monday 17th of August 2009

The rising popularity of 'staycations' could see more Brits visiting London attractions this year, it is suggested.

Buildings such as the Tower of London, St Pauls Cathedral and Kensington Palace could prove popular with those holidaying closer to home.

"Now that the Brits have rediscovered their own country the 'staycation' may well remain popular," said Sharron Livingston, editor of the Travel Magazine.

She also pointed out that poor exchange rates between the pound and the euro are putting Brits off travelling abroad this summer, and instead encouraging them to take a UK break.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the seasonally-adjusted number of UK visits rose four per cent between April and June this year when compared to the previous three months.

Meanwhile, visits abroad by UK residents fell by ten per cent in the year to June 2009, from 70.9 million to 63.5 million.
