London sightseeing: Victoria Revealed at Kensington Palace

Published: Tuesday 12th of July 2011

A London sightseeing tour should definitely include a visit to Kensington Palace & the Orangery, where curators are preparing an eye-opening look at one of Britain's most famous monarchs.

According to costume conservation team supervisor Mika Takami, Kensington Palace is looking forward to displaying many amazing textiles from the Victorian era, not least a silk dress worn by Queen Victoria herself.

"The dress was originally black but now appears as a mottled brown," she said.

"As a famous and historically significant dress as well as one of the few surviving dresses worn by Victoria when a young woman it has been studied, catalogued and displayed many times."

The Victoria Revealed exhibition will feature many more fascinating items and information about the former queen, and the museum has revealed that audience participation will be a big part of the display.

Until then, there is still time to see the last Enchanted Evening at Kensington Palace & the Orangery on July 15th, when artist Chris Levine's light installations will be on display.
