London sightseeing at the Tower of London

Published: Friday 13th of June 2008

A veritable staple of the any London sightseeing trip, the Tower of London has horrified and enchanted visitors in equal measures for centuries.

These days, those visiting the tower on a London city pass are likely to fall into the latter camp. Once upon a time, however, these dingy dungeons would have filled most of their guests with dread.

A new exhibition at the landmark - called Prisoners of the Tower - allows visitors to look back on the prison's grisly past and relive the lives of some of its most infamous inmates.

Launching on July 4th, those indulging in a little London sightseeing can discover what it was like to be the Tower of London's first prisoner Bishop Flambard and enter the mind of its most famous detainee Guy Fawkes.

Take the time during your visit to the capital to explore this 11th-century structure, a terrifying symbol of the law's power through the ages.
