London hotels faring well, says expert
Published: Thursday 9th of July 2009
London hotels are still proving popular with tourists despite the economic downturn, it has been claimed.
Robert Bernard, partner responsible for hotel consultancy at PKF, said they have done well during the first five months of the year, which looks set to continue.
"In fact occupancy rates are in excess of what they were in 2008, before the economic crisis really hit. Considering everything, London is doing very well," he continued.
Figures from PKF Hotel Consultancy Services show occupancy across London's hotels increased 1.3 per cent year-on-year in May, from 81 per cent last year to 82.1 per cent this year.
Anyone staying in the capital can make the most of their visit with the London Pass, which gives free entry to a number of top attractions.
Among them is Kew Gardens, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year with a whole host of celebrations.
