London attractions: Valentina Lisitsa at the Royal Albert Hall
Published: Wednesday 16th of November 2011
Making her debut at the venue, the classical musician - who rose to popularity on streaming video site youtube, where her music has been heard by 30 million people - has quickly become one of the most highly-sought musicians on the internet.
Boasting a repertoire spanning Bach, Bernstein and Shostakovich, she plays in a distinctive style that has often been described as "dazzling".
The Baltimore Sun, reviewing one of the pianists' US performances, described her as a "gigantic talent".
"She has infallible fingers, imagination and a control of dynamics – from the softest to the loudest sounds – little short of electrifying," it claimed.
Lisitsa was originally born in the Ukraine and is now based in North Carolina. Her debut with the Rotterdam Philharmonic in May 2010 marked the first performance of Rachmaninoff's New 5th Concerto in the Netherlands.
