London attractions: Experience magnificent royal wedding venue Westminster Abbey

Published: Tuesday 25th of October 2011

People looking for things to do in London should not miss one of the most iconic buildings on the capital's skyline: Westminster Abbey.

Already one of the best loved buildings in London, the abbey became even more prolific earlier this year thanks to the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton.

People who avidly watched the historic royal wedding take place on TV can visit the abbey and experience the magnificent venue in which Kate Middleton walked down the aisle.

However, the young couple are certainly not the first royals to have ties with the beautiful gothic church.

Westminster Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066, and is the final resting place of some seventeen monarchs.

Described on its website as a "must-see living pageant of British history", kings, queens, statesmen, soldiers and poets have all been married and laid to rest at the abbey.

Art enthusiasts will also enjoy a visit to the abbey, with a wealth of historic paintings, stained glass, pavements and textiles on display.
