London Attractions: Enter Tower Bridge competition for a special prize

Published: Friday 25th of March 2011

People seeking things to do in London may wish to get an insight into the inner workings of one of the capital's most iconic landmarks, and the Tower Bridge Exhibition's latest idea is a prize draw with a very special reward.

Every day, Bridge Master Eric Sutherns and his team spend their time raising and lowering the 1,100-tonne bascules to let traffic through, and one lucky visitor will get the chance to try it for themselves.

The winning member of the public will be supervised by one of the Tower Bridge's senior technical officers and will be allowed to make tannoy announcements before using a joystick and buttons to operate the bridge.

Meanwhile, the Tower Bridge Exhibition is collaborating with Southwark Arts Forum to provide a new rolling exhibition space in London.

The world's most famous bridge will devote two rooms to displaying contemporary art created by local people, with the first show scheduled to begin on March 31st.
