Diva Thursday at the Handel House Museum

Published: Thursday 7th of August 2008

It is Diva Thursday at the Handel House Museum in London and today's featured musician is Anastasia Robinson.

Anastasia had a fascinating life, in which she secretly married a member of the aristocracy and was also insulted by the castrato Senesino.

Her career was ended by 1724 by which time she had performed in many of Handel's great operas.

The Diva Thursday concert will be performed by mezzo soprano Katherine Allen and harpsichordist Julian Perkins. The pair will present a programme of music which will include arias from Ottone and Giuilio Cesare.

The house was Handel's residence for 36 years, beginning in the summer of 1723. The residence was in walking distance of St James's Palace where the composer conducted his official duties. After his death, the tenancy of the property passed to his servant John Du Burk.

London Pass holders can receive free access to the Handel House Museum.
