Published: Wednesday 5th of August 2009

Over 10,300 capital executions are included on the new site, while 900,000 instances of imprisonment and 97,000 transportations also feature.
"These registers testify to the fact that crime and punishment was and always will be a controversial subject," commented Ancestry.co.uk managing director Olivier Van Calster.
He added that the "colourful nature of crime" is expressed in the documents, which feature a number of notorious crimes including those of Jack the Ripper.
