Churchill 'unimpressed' over lack of bomb-proofing
Published: Monday 20th of July 2009
A letter is on display at the Cabinet War Rooms in London which shows Winston Churchill's surprise that his headquarters were not bomb-proof.
He worked from the bunker during the Blitz and is believed to have thought his hideout was immune from Nazi attack.
However, the letter from 1940 suggested the late prime minister was unimpressed when he discovered the situation was to the contrary.
Winston Churchill was told that the base "cannot be made bomb-proof in any sense" after his aide Patrick Duff wrote to cabinet secretary Sir Edward Bridges.
Visitors to London can see the letter for themselves as it is now on show at the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms.
With the London Pass, tourists can benefit from free entry to the attraction, which would normally cost £12.95 per adult.
When bought with a travel card for an extra £7 a day, people can also make their way around the city's attractions with ease.
