Benjamin Franklin letters discovered

Published: Friday 15th of May 2009

Unseen for a quarter of a century, letters from Benjamin Franklin have been discovered in the British Library.

They reveal correspondence to and from Franklin and were discovered by University of California, San Diego professor Alan Houston.

Speaking of his findings, professor Houston said: "Franklin refers to a book of letters concerning the wagon affair in his autobiography, but no one has ever seen it.

"Like others, I assumed that it had not survived."

The letters were published in last month's edition of the William and Mary Quarterly and depict a time when the French and Indian War was taking place.

With the London Pass, visiting Benjamin Franklin House is free of charge, saving £7 on the price of an adult ticket.

It is just one of the many London attractions on offer with the pass, which can also be bought in conjunction with a travel card.
