Beer delivery arrives at Windsor Castle

Published: Monday 15th of September 2008

Staff at Windsor Castle must have been surprised last week when 12 barrels of beer were delivered to the front gates.

According to reports, a lorry arrived at the castle carrying the equivalent of 2,000 pints of larger.

Some confusion ensued before it emerged that the beer had been delivered to the Queen by mistake. The lorry had in fact been destined for the Windsor Castle pub in Berkshire.

The pub's manager told the Daily Express that that they have received royal post in the past.

"We have received mail for the royal household here before but I think this is the first time they have received anything meant for us.

"It was a silly mistake - these things can happen," he commented.

Occupied by members of the royal family for over 900 years, Windsor Castle is one of London's most frequented tourist attractions.

The castle houses several state apartments, as well as a vast collection of art and royal memorabilia.

Visitors can gain entry to Windsor Castle using their London Pass.
