Things to do in London: Visit the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art's new exhibition

Published: Wednesday 20th of January 2010

Those visiting London galleries should make sure they do not miss a trip to the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art where a new exhibition opened recently.

The On the Move exhibition, now in its second week, includes art in many different media and materials that all attempt to depict movement.

Equestrian paintings of the eighteenth century and experiments with long exposure photography are included in the exhibition, as is CAD modelling.

One of the pieces on show is Aaron Siskind's photograph Pleasures and Terrors of Levitation #59, which was taken in 1956.

The medium of photography emerged in the 19th century and this allowed more detailed study of both animal and human locomotion and it is this, according to the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, that created a greater trend for movement in art.

On the Move runs until April 18th 2010 alongside the gallery's permanent collection of work by Italian artists in the first half of the twentieth century.

The gallery is just four stops on the London Underground from the famous London shopping area - Oxford Street - and is easy to get to from many other London attractions.
