See the Cezannes at the Courtauld Gallery
Published: Monday 16th of June 2008
Between June 26th - October 5th, the Courtauld Gallery in London will be holding a unique exhibition of artworks by the influential painter Paul Cézanne (1839-1906).
In addition to some of his most iconic paintings, such as Montagne Sainte-Victoire (1887) and Card Players (1892 - 5), the exhibition will display some of Cézanne's rarely seen drawings and watercolours.
Previously unexhibited artefacts include a group of nice autograph letters in which the artist reflects upon the principles of artistic practice.
Extensive research by the gallery's department of conservation and technology will add new insights into Cézanne's working methods techniques.
Cézanne died in 1906, but during his life he created a rich legacy of post-impressionist works and helped to form the bridge between late 19th century impressionism and the early 20th century style known as cubism.
