See Apocalypse at the Tate Britain for things to do in London
Published: Thursday 22nd of September 2011
People looking for things to do in London could opt for the new Apocalypse exhibition at the Tate Britain.
The visionary exhibition celebrates the work of eccentric artist John Martin, who worked during the 19th century.
It brings together his most famous paintings of apocalyptic destruction and biblical disaster from collections around the world, in addition to previously unseen works.
Known as the 'people's painter', Martin was known for appealing to mass audiences with pieces that critics judged to be distasteful.
The exhibition, which is running until January 15th, captures all the drama of the artist's paintings, and the impact they made on the public.
Art fans visiting the Tate Britain may also want to enjoy Colour & Line, Turner's Experiments.
This display explores how Joseph Mallord William Turner revolutionised the watercolour and print art worlds.
Featured as a two room display, the exhibition features works on paper by Turner, with a variety of experiments and interactive displays looking at his working methods and techniques.
