National Portrait Gallery show Amis photographs
Published: Thursday 8th of January 2009
A previously unseen collection of photographs of the writer Martin Amis has gone on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
The 24 photographs, which were taken in 1977 by the writer's then fiancee Angela Gorgas, show Amis and other people who were important in his life at the time.
Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Alastair Sooke spoke to Gorgas shortly before the exhibition opened.
When asked why she wished to exhibit these pictures to the world, she said: "They are like a family album to me.
"I don't know how many people would want to display their family album. But, to be honest, so many of these people have now died."
LondonPass holders visiting the National Portrait Gallery can enjoy free entry to fee-paying exhibitions featuring internationally-renowned artists and photographers.
