London attractions: Visit the Mick Jagger exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery
Published: Thursday 15th of September 2011
Rolling Stones fans looking for things to do in London should not miss the Mick Jagger: Young in the 60s exhibition which is taking place at the National Portrait Gallery.
The display documents the singer's rise to fame, tracking his life from his education at Dartford Grammer School to the height of the Stones' fame.
The Gallery holds portraits of the group which began with a portrait taken of Jagger during a trip to Morocco in 1967, which was gifted to the institute by Cecil Beaton.
Also included in the collection are portraits of the singer by Gered Mankowitz, which includes one with his Aston Martin DB6 and another from 1968 with a distinctly pop-art feel.
One highlight is an image from the Rolling Stones' first official photoshoot, which was done by Philip Townsend.
Others include a colour photograph taken by Colin Jones in 1967 and Michael Cooper's study of the band for the Their Satanic Majesties Request 1967 album cover.
