Futurism comes to the Estorick Collection
Published: Sunday 14th of December 2008
A leading London attraction dedicated to Italian art is to showcase the fascinating Futurist movement in the New Year.
Futurism 100! will open on January 14th at the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art and will run until April 19th.
The exhibit will highlight the unique and controversial movement which began with the publication of the Futurist Manifesto in 1909 and which sought to free itself from anything old or antiquated by embracing the futuristic and cutting-edge.
To celebrate the centenary of the movement's birth the Collection will be holding the first British exhibition of the sculpture of Umberto Boccioni.
In addition there will be a chance to see pieces in a range of media by contemporary artist Luca Buvoli, who draws on Futurism to inform his impassioned and often captivating work.
The current home of the Estorick Collection in north London's Canonbury Square was acquired in 1994 to house the collection of American sociologist Eric Estorick, who died in 1993.
LondonPass holders can obtain free entry to the Estorick Collection, saving £3.50 for adults.
