Estorick Futurism in London
Published: Saturday 31st of January 2009
The early 20th century art movement known as Futurism is being celebrated at the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art.
This London gallery is the perfect place to showcase the centenary of FT Marinetti's Futurist manifesto on February 20th as Italy is the country where the movement began.
Currently open, the exhibition runs until April 19th and features two main displays: Unique forms - the Drawing and Sculpture of Umberto Boccioni; and Luca Buvoli - Velocity Zero.
Unique Forms celebrates the work of Boccioni, one of the five big names which were part of the initial Futurist painting movement.
Born in the south of Italy, although producing a large amount of his work in Milan, Boccioni died during a military exercise during the first world war.
Velocity Zero looks at the output of Luca Buvoli, born in Italy in 1963 but now working in New York City.
The installation on show at Velocity Zero was made especially for the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art.
