Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art offers 'one of the best things to do in London'

Published: Thursday 8th of April 2010

A visit to the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art represents one of the best things to do in London, it is believed.

Stephen Bayley is quoted by the gallery's official website as saying that there is no more civilised way to spend an hour in north London.

In addition, Sir Nicholas Serota, director at the Tate, said the gallery houses "one of the finest collections of early 20th century Italian art anywhere in the world".

The Estorick Collection is Britain's only gallery dedicated to modern Italian art and is perhaps best known for its astounding array of futurist works, including Umberto Boccioni's 'Modern Idol' and Carlo Carra's 'Leaving the Theatre'.

Other major artists whose work appear at the gallery include Luigi Russolo, Gino Severini, Giacomo Balla and Amedeo Modigliani.

The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art is situated at Canonbury Square in London and is home to a gallery shop and a licensed Italian cafe, with visitors able to dine alfresco thanks to its seating area located in a beautifully landscaped garden.
