Courtauld collection is "simply staggering", says critic
Published: Friday 16th of January 2009
One of the UK's leading art critics has heaped praise on the Courtauld Gallery.
The top London attraction was the subject of glowing admiration from Jonathan Jones in his blog for the Guardian newspaper website.
Located in Somerset House, the gallery is full of "exquisite things gorgeously displayed" and visitors should watch out for a "jolt of awe" when viewing the works on display.
Mr Jones said: "If you're in London to see art this weekend, give yourself a treat and visit the extraordinary Courtauld Gallery - a place where some of the supreme monuments of modernism rub shoulders with Renaissance marriage chests.
"If you want to feel emotion in an art gallery and want to be ravished and ravaged, don't waste time looking for cheap sensation - go straight to the Courtauld and get a shot of greatness."
Great praise indeed, plus while Mr Jones contests that the admission charge is "worth it", LondonPass holders could enjoy the Courtauld Gallery even more in the knowledge that is absolutely free.
