Courtauld Gallery receives record visitors
Published: Sunday 7th of December 2008
One of the capital's most beautiful attractions enjoyed a record number of visitors in its 75th year.
The Courtauld Gallery was founded in 1932 and over the twelve months of the anniversary it received an unprecedented 167,638 guests.
Deborah Swallow, Marit Rausing director of The Courtauld Institute of Art, said: "The Courtauld’s faculty, students, alumni, friends and visitors have given us extraordinary support this year.
"The enthusiasm for the Courtauld’s work is all around us – from the numbers of outstanding students, the increase in alumni returning to take part in events, our largest audience ever for the Courtauld Gallery and the generosity of both old and new supporters."
A recent exhibition, The Courtauld Cezannes, received in excess of 84,000 visitors alone by the end of its three and a half month run.
The gallery moved to its current location in London's iconic Somerset House in 1990.
Visitors to the Courtauld Gallery can enjoy free admission with their LondonPass, saving £5 for adults and £4 for children.
