Cindy Sherman exhibition at London attraction

Published: Monday 20th of April 2009

A London attraction is hosting an exhibition of the work of photographer Cindy Sherman, her first in the UK since 2007.

The show, on at Spruth Magers London until May 27th, displays a collection of works demonstrating her enduring fascination with concepts of gender, beauty and self-fashioning.

Sherman is famed for working as her own model, creating unique self-portraits, in which she acts out all the parts of a fashion shoot - author, director, makeup artist, hairstylist and wardrobe mistress.

"Every bulge of flesh, strand of hair, rouged cheek or wrinkled brow is deliberately orchestrated to construct a vividly real yet curiously inscrutable character," according to a press release from the London attraction.

Sherman has exhibited widely, with the collection on display at Spruth Magers following exhibitions at the Serpentine Gallery, London; the MoMA, New York; the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

After visiting the Sherman exhibition, tourists could take a trip to Hampton Court Palace, which is currently hosting a collection of portraits of Henry VIII's wives.

London Pass holders can receive free entry to London museums.
