Best London attractions: National Gallery hosts Master of Light exhibition

Published: Monday 10th of May 2010

The National Gallery is well-known as one of the best London attractions, but art lovers have even more reason to visit at present thanks to a temporary exhibition displaying the work of Christen Kobka.

Running until June 13th, the exhibition is the first outside Denmark to focus on the paintings of the so-called Danish Master of Light, giving people in London a rare chance to see the artistic gems.

According to the National Gallery's official website, the exhibition emphasises the artist's "exquisite originality and experimental outlook".

It adds that Kobka had a fantastic ability to endow ordinary people and places with a universal significance.

Kobka's outdoor sketching and his treatment of light and atmosphere are on display for all to see at the gallery, where around 40 of his most celebrated works are now on show.

The National Gallery is situated in London's impressive Trafalgar Square and is home to a huge selection of paintings dating from the 13th to the 19th centuries.
