Visit the Household Cavalry Museum for things to do in London
Published: Monday 31st of December 2012
People looking for things to do in London can opt for a trip to the Household Cavalry Museum for a behind-the-scenes insight into the work that goes into the ceremonial and operational role of the unique regiment.
Over the centuries, the regiment has amassed an outstanding collection of treasures that are simply a joy to browse.
The collection includes items such as ceremonial uniforms, royal standards and gallantry awards, musical instruments, horse furniture and silverware by Faberge.
Two silver kettledrums given to the regiment in 1831 by William IV are on display, as well as the pistol ball that wounded Sir Robert Hill at Waterloo, and the cork leg belonging to the first Marquess of Anglesy, who lost his original limb at Waterloo.
There are also more modern additions to the collection including Jacky Charlton's football cap, as he did his national service with the regiment. The bridle of Sefton - the horse that was injured in the 1982 Hyde Park bombings - is also on display.
