Visit Becoming Picasso at the Courtauld Gallery for things to do in London

Published: Thursday 17th of January 2013

There is plenty of competition among London attractions for art lovers visiting the capital, but the Courtauld Gallery is an excellent choice to add to a sightseeing itinerary.

The renowned gallery is hosting an exhibition entitled Becoming Picasso from February 14th until May 26th which invites people to discover the remarkable story of the year Pablo Picasso broke through as an artist - 1901.

Aged just 19, the incredible artist launched his career in Paris with an astounding exhibition that would pave the way for him to become a world-famous artist.

The works in the exhibition show the painter in his early days as he challenged the styles and subjects of major modern artists of the day.

During the second half of the year, Picasso's style changed suddenly as he entered the so-called 'blue period' which was partly inspired by the suicide of a close friend and saw him create a series of melancholic pieces that are now some of the most popular of his works.
