Things to do in London: Tate modern to host Lichtenstein: A Retrospective

Published: Saturday 16th of February 2013

Modern art fans seeking things to do in London should definitely consider a trip to the Tate Modern which is soon to be running a new exhibition entitled Lichtenstein: A Retrospective.

From February 21st to May 27th, visitors will be able to peruse the works of this important artist, with 125 of his most definitive paintings and sculptures being on show.

Lichtenstein produced some of the world's most immediately-recognisable pieces of modern art, with his iconic works being based on comic strips and advertising imagery. He coloured the images with his trademark hand-painted Benday dots.

Highlights of the exhibition include Look Mickey (1961), Whaam! (1963), Drowning Girl (1963) and his monumental Artist's Studio series (1973-4).

Art critics are already getting excited about the exhibition, with Richard Dorment of the Daily Telegraph commenting: "[The exhibition] is bound to have crowds queuing down the South Bank for a glimpse of his iconic comic-strip-inspired canvases."
