Things to do in London: Get a glimpse behind the scenes with a National Theatre Backstage Tour
Published: Monday 21st of January 2013
People looking for things to do in London could opt for a National Theatre Backstage Tour and explore one of the UK's most renowned and innovative performance spaces.
The National Theatre is a working building, which produces around 20 new productions every year.
This packed schedule means that visitors wandering around the theatre are likely to witness some of the rehearsals, prop and costume-making that take place on site. Visitors touring the building are therefore unlikely to experience the same tour twice.
As well as tours of the whole theatre, visitors can opt for Costume Tours, which take place on selected Saturdays, and allow visitors to catch a glimpse behind the scenes of the costume team.
This includes visitors to the cutting room, dye shop and wig room, and lasts approximately two hours.
The National Theatre is situated on the South Bank, with Shakespeare's Globe Theatre tour being nearby for those who want to carry on their sightseeing afterwards.
