Take a nap..at Hampton Court Palace
Published: Monday 16th of September 2013
Fancy a sleepover at Hampton Court Palace? If you have ever relished the thought of staying at one of the most revered royal residences in the UK, then pack your sleeping bags, put your coat on, and head down to Hampton Court.
The palace is the former home of the colourful King Henry VIII, who developed this grand palace after acquiring it in the 1520s.
But later on this month, on September 27th, visitors will get to spend the night at the court of Elizabeth I during their 'Dusk til Dawn' event. Not only will tourists then get a chance to dine in her Privy Kitchen and dance in her Great Hall, the fun-filled evening will also feature entertainment and tales about her life.
The sleepover will take place in the Cartoon Gallery overlooking Fountain Court. The gallery derived its name because of the stunning 16th-century 'cartoons' which line the walls, and offers the perfect setting for larger receptions.
On the evening itself, there will be a number of things for visitors to get their teeth into.
This includes Elizabethan music and dancing, plus two tours written exclusively for the evening. This will give tourists the opportunity to venture into parts of the palace which very few other visitors get to see.
There will also be live interaction with members of the court.
And while you're kipping over at the palace, why not visit England's last and greatest medieval hall located inside the building?
The room itself is a sight for many visitors to see. Its walls are lined with Henry VIII's most luxurious tapestries and it has had many famous guests and politicians visit during its time, with the most recent being Tony Blair, who aired an informal meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union in the Great Hall.
You can also learn more about the Tudor lifestyle, and take an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the lives of those who lived and worked in the palace.
Some of the largest kitchens of Tudor England are based here, and the palace often hosts cookery events and activities there.
