Spend a sunny day in the Hampton Court Palace gardens for things to do in London

Published: Tuesday 19th of February 2013

There are precious few sunny days in England, so when the hot weather does strike it is important to find somewhere nice to spend the day - and Hampton Court Palace is a fantastic option for people looking for things to do in London.

While Hampton Court Palace has a dark and intriguing history, visitors walking out in the garden will be delighted by the 60 acres that run right down to the River Thames, as well as the acres of perfectly manicured parkland that lie beyond.

It features colourful displays of flowers, with more than 200,000 flowering bulbs planted, 750 acres of soothing royal parkland and sparkling fountains are dotted here and there.

Highlights of the garden include the Great Vine, which was planted in 1768 by the celebrated gardner 'Capability' Brown and still produces a crop of sweet black grapes every year.

The Privy Garden - a re-creation of William III's own garden based on a 1702 design - is another favourite with visitors.
