London lights up for the winter with special festivals and seasonal sports

Published: Monday 18th of November 2013

There are plenty of things to see and do in London this winter and boroughs all across the city are gearing up for some winter fun.

In fact, this time of year has arguably got to be one of the best times to visit the capital because of the various festivals that are occurring in the upcoming weeks.

If you are in Hyde Park for example, be sure to head down on November 22nd to the Winter Wonderland festival, which will have one of the best ice rinks in the capital.

In addition, there will be fairground rides and a Christmas market. Thousands of people are expected to descend upon Hyde Park for this annual celebration, which will include activities for all the family.

Featured attractions include the magical Ice Kingdom, where guests will be able to walk through a fantastical world of real ice and snow. Crafted from over 200 tons of ice and snow it's the largest of its kind in the UK, and created especially for this festival.

Prepare to be awed by the Zippos Christmas circus, which is set to include a fun-packed array of world-class jugglers, clowns and aerialists.

Or alternatively, why not head down to the freeze festival in Clapham? It is one of the biggest winter sports and music events, which will include a ski and snowboard competition.

The festival will have over 500 tonnes of real snow in preparation for the winter sports bonanza and markets that will be featured there.

But while you're in London this winter, why not head down to the Queen's Ice rink? It is one of the city's longest standing ice and bowling venues and has its own bar, café and games arcade.

And what's more, if you hold a London pass, then you will be entitled to a free session of bowling or ice-skating.
