London attractions: Wellington Arch offers history and fantastic views

Published: Monday 1st of October 2012

Wellington Arch has an intriguing history and offers a fantastic view of the English capital, making it a fantastic addition to an itinerary of London attractions.

Visitors will find the monument in the heart of royal London at Hyde Park Corner. It was originally built in a bid to improve the royal parks and was designed as a victory arch celebrating Wellington's defeat of Napoleon.

People visiting the arch will see the largest bronze sculpture in Europe sitting atop the landmark. It portrays the Angel of Peace descending on the Quadriga, or four-horsed chariot, of War.

Within Wellington Arch, visitors will find a new exhibition about the history of the monument, as well as a new exhibition space called the Quadriga Gallery, which is hosting a series of temporary exhibitions exploring the history and heritage of England.

Ascending to the top of the arch, there are fantastic panoramic views of the city on offer, bound to take tourists' breath away and prove to be a memorable moment in London.
