London attractions: Warm up with a homemade meal at Kensington Palace's Orangery

Published: Tuesday 9th of October 2012

Visitors looking for things to do in London on a beautiful wintry morning should consider a toasty breakfast at the Orangery at Kensington Palace.

Both picturesque and historical, the Orangery boasts a mouth-watering menu of delicious homemade food, offering up hot breakfasts, morning coffee, cakes and pastries. As befitting a truly English attraction, there are also more than ten different flavours of tea to choose from.

If the weather is nice enough, visitors can opt to dine al fresco on the terrace, or warm themselves up with a selection from the cafe's collection of wines and Historic Royal Palaces' beers.

In the 18th century the Orangery belonged to Queen Anne, who used it as the setting for lavish court entertainments.

With its Corinthian columns, sweeping archways and eye-catching woodcarvings, today's visitors will find it easy to image elegant socialites and decadent aristocrats dancing the night away four centuries ago.

What's more, the Orangery is happily situated in the perfectly-manicured grounds of Kensington Palace, meaning that one of London's most historic attractions is just a pleasant stroll away.
