London attractions: Visit the Banqueting House for a fun, family day out

This historic building was originally designed for King James I in 1622 and it was also the site of also the site of King Charles I’s execution in 1649.
It is the only remaining complete building of Whitehall Palace and played host to many state events such as plays and masques. This is a function which remains in similar form today. These days it is used for both royal and government functions in addition to society events.
Both the exterior and interior of the building are magnificent. The ceilings are lined with grand pictures and artwork and the rooms are vast and regal.
It is unlike many of the other royal palaces and attractions that exist within the city and holds a number of exhibitions and events for visitors to enjoy.
