London attractions: Visit Elizabethan England at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

Published: Monday 11th of February 2013

London is the capital of a land of literature, and visitors seeking London attractions that reflect this should definitely pay a visit to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

This reconstruction of the iconic theatre promises to transport people back to a Shakespearian London, filled with rouges and bawdy houses. It was at this open-air playhouse that the world-famous playwright wrote many of his most recognised plays.

Visitors to the Globe are invited to take a tour, and guides bring the space to life with colourful stories of the theatre as it was in 1599, the reconstruction process in the 1990s and how the 'wooden O' works today.

There is also a fascinating exhibition under the theatre which explores the life of Shakespeare as well as the London which he inhabited.

An audio guide is available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Japanese.

After paying a visit to Shakespeare's former stomping ground, why not take a trip to Foyles London, which is a bookstore known throughout the world for its vast selection?
