London attractions: The Wernher Collection at Ranger's House will delight art lovers

Published: Thursday 17th of January 2013

People looking for things to do in London with a passion for art will not want to miss a trip to see the Wernher Collection at Ranger's House.

This hidden gem houses a fantastic display of medieval and Renaissance works of art, which was brought together by Sir Julian Wernher, a diamond magnate who lived in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Visitors can peruse early religious paintings, Dutch Old Masters, tiny Gothic ivories and delightful pieces from the Renaissance.

Art lovers will be able to enjoy a wide variety of forms and styles, as well as getting an insight into the taste of Sir Wernher himself.

It is housed in an elegant redbrick Georgian villa on the edge of Greenwich Park. Built back in 1723, the history of this building is worth investigating in itself, although most people do visit for the treasures inside.

People looking for nearby attractions could opt for a trip to the British Music Experience, the Fan Museum or the National Maritime Museum.
