London attractions: The Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising

Published: Sunday 30th of December 2012

The Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising may not sound like the most enthralling of things to do in London, but visitors would be mistaken for thinking this.

Upon visiting this quirky museum, people are transported back to their childhoods and beyond, with long-gone brands opening up the fascinating history of consumer culture.

Journey through the time tunnel for a nostalgic trip from Victorian times all the way up to the present day.

People with an interest in marketing will be truly fascinated as to how well-loved brands achieved success through their creative packaging and advertising methods.

The museum features more than 12,000 original items from the Robert Opie Collection, and is situated just off Notting Hill’s famous Portobello Road.

Historian Robert Opie saw the need to record the history of the everyday products around us, and started at the age of just 16 with a packet of munchies before building up his impressive collection.
