London attractions: The Chelsea Physic Garden is a beautiful setting on a summer's day

Published: Saturday 11th of August 2012

People wanting to celebrate the summer at London attractions should consider a visit to the breathtaking Chelsea Physic Garden.

The glorious garden is situated right in the heart of London, and contains around 5,000 different plants, with edible, useful, medicinal and historical properties.

It has been around for centuries, originally being founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries in order to train apprentices how to identify plants.

The Garden encompasses a warm microclimate which means that tender plants are able to flourish, and guests can see plants that would not normally grow in the UK.

Species of tree in the garden number over 100 in themselves, including pomegranates, ginkgos, mulberries and eucalyptus.

According to the company, in the garden of Edible and Useful Plants, visitors can see "an extraordinary range of plant species on which humanity depends; from forest fruits and land restoration plants to superfoods and plants used for hygiene, science and the arts."
