London attractions: Take a step back in time with the Foundling Museum
The Foundling Museum is probably one of the most sobering of London attractions. It started out as a safe haven for neglected children and was home to well over 25,000 youngsters before it closed.
Not only was it one of the first children’s homes in London, it was also home to the first art gallery that opened up in London.
If you want to learn more about the history of the museum and the lives of the people who set it up and resided there, then you’ll love the exhibitions and collections they have on display.
The museum features objects left over time by the mothers and babies who lived at or visited the former children’s home, and it is also home to an impressive selection of 18th century art.
Visitors to this attraction will also get a chance to see the Foundling Hospital which is over 400 years old and contains sculptures, manuscripts, furniture, photos and other memorabilia which have been collected or preserved over the years.
