London attractions: Peruse the sparkling jewels of the Wernher Collection at Ranger's House

Published: Sunday 14th of October 2012

The Wernher Collection at Ranger's House is renowned for its sumptuous collection of works of art, silver and jewels, and painting and portraits - making it a fantastic option for things to do in London.

Diamond magnate Sir Julius Wernher (1950-1912) amassed the remarkable collection, which is now housed in Ranger's House; a beautiful Georgian villa in Greenwich Park.

More than 700 works of art are on display, including early religious pieces as well as masterworks by the Dutch Old Masters.

Tiny carved Gothic ivories, fine Renaissance bronzes and silver treasures from the fires of medieval craftsmen are also on show, alongside Renaissance decorative arts.

Highlights include an owl shaped coconut shell and the statue Loves of Angels.

On Monday December 3rd, curator Annie Kemkaran-Smith is offering a closer look at the medieval pieces in the collection, exploring the common scenes and events portrayed through a number of different mediums.
