London attractions: Outdoor theatre events in London
Published: Monday 22nd of July 2013
One of the best things about summer is that theatres across the country - such as Shakespeare's Globe - literally turn themselves inside out.
By that I mean that some of the world's best loved plays are performed outside in the sun.
After all, there is nothing quite like seeing a breathtaking performance of Macbeth or A Midsummer Night's Dream while sitting with your friends on the lawn, or terrace enjoying a beer and a picnic.
In London, there will be a number of performances, held at theatres across the city which will take place outside in the open.
We've picked out some of the very best that are sure to create some memorable moments in the heart of London.
Shakespeare's Globe Theatre will be holding outdoor performances of a number of plays associated with the world's most renowned writer, including The Tempest, which will be performed until August 18th and Macbeth, which will be held until October 13th.
Also on show will be A Midsummer Night's Dream, which will be performed until October 12th.
Shakespeare's Globe also does a number of theatre tours which give visitors the chance to discover more about the famous board and the architecture of the theatre itself.
The tour also includes an audio guide, which is available in various languages.
The National Theatre is in many ways, the spiritual home of the British theatrical tradition. The venue often comes complete with free music in the foyer, fantastic settings, visitors from all over the globe and experimental outdoor performances on the roof and terrace.
Performances that normally take place inside the building, towards the end of this summer and beyond will be sprawled across the surrounding riversides, squares and terraces.
Last year's Inside Out festival was a big hit among tourists and included pop-up workshops, theatrical performances and exhibitions.
Full details for this year have not been announced yet, but it is sure to be popular among visitors.
