London attractions: Learn the gruesome stories of the Tower of London

Published: Friday 10th of August 2012

When people are considering things to do in London, a trip to the Tower of London must be at the forefront of their minds.

The imposing tower has a lengthy history, being intertwined with royal births and marriages as well as imprisonments and death, making it a truly fascinating place to spend a day.

Most visitors to the Tower will pay a visit to its glittering collection of Crown Jewels, which have survived the ages to decorate Queen Elizabeth II to this day.

A Yeoman Warder tour is a great option; the 'beefeaters' show guests round the tower with much gusto, enlightening them with funny and gruesome anecdotes about their surroundings.

To hear about the more eerie side of the Tower, people can take a trip to the prisoner's exhibition which tells the stories of those incarcerated at the Tower - both regal and lowly.

Visitors should ensure they spot some of the Tower's famous ravens before they leave - legend has it that the kingdom and the Tower will fall if the six ravens ever leave.
