London attractions: Learn about canals and ice cream at the London Canal Museum

Published: Monday 8th of October 2012

People who want to learn about the historic waterways of the English capital should make a beeline for London Canal Museum for things to do in London.

At the museum, visitors will learn the human histories of the canal, with exhibits revealing the people who once worked on the waterways, the horses that pulled their boars and the cargoes they carried.

Guests also get a glimpse inside a narrowboat cabin, to see how the people who commandeered the ships would once have lived.

An engaging exhibition entitled 'An Inland Voyage' depicts the canal boat people of the 40s and 50s by photographer Robert Longden.

As the London Canal Museum is situated in Gatti's Ice House at King's Cross, it also contains a unique Victorian ice well, which was once used to store ice imported from Norway by canal boat and ship.

This means that while on a visit to the Canal Museum, people can also get a glimpse into the ice industry in London.
